When and how to change out SorbIts®
Training Video
SorbIts® are resuable absorbents that soak up non-hazardous industrial fluids in and around machinery to prevent slips and falls. Changing them in a timely manner is important for creating a cleaner, safer workplace.
To check if SorbIts® have reached absorption capacity, you can use the Step-on / Step-off method. First, place your foot gently over the absorbent. Then, place your foot on the floor. If liquid transfers from your foot to the floor, the absorbent is ready to be changed.
To change the absorbent, shake off any loose debris, such as metal chips, and place it in the drum labeled ‘Soiled SorbIts®’.
Be sure the absorbent is not dripping. Free standing liquid is not allowed in the drum. The Department of Transportation prohibits drums of soiled SorbIts® with free-standing liquid to be transported.
Replace the soiled absorbent with a clean one from the designated storage location.
Your ITU AbsorbTech service representative will pick up soiled SorbIts® on a regular delivery schedule for professional laundering and reuse. They will also ensure that you have the proper inventory of clean SorbIts® available.
PLEASE DO NOT THROW SORBITS IN THE TRASH. They are not disposable absorbents.
Thank you. Your efforts help reduce facility costs, eliminate a solid waste stream, and maintain a cleaner, safer workplace.
