Benefits of an Effective Mopping Program

Wet Mop by ITU AbsorbTech for industrial clean up, reusable for spill cleanup solutions to reduce cost and risks of unsafe work environments

Reduce Slips & Falls and Minimize Indoor Pollutants

Regular and effective floor mopping throughout your facility is essential to prevent slips and falls and minimize indoor pollutants at your facility.  This in turn helps to create a condition of well-being for your employees (good hygiene) and reduce exposure levels and risks.

Prevent slips and falls

An effective mopping progrm, coupled with a floor mat system and absorbent program, will help provent costly slip and fall incidents at your facility.

To begin, conduct a risk assessment for slips, trips and falls.

Implement a floor mat system to trap soil, pollutants, and moisture that would otherwise spread into your building.  This will help minimize the amount of cleaning and mopping needed thoughout your facility.

Review your spill prevention plan for any liquid, oil, solvent, or industrial process fluid you may encounter in your workplace. This shoud include prevention (passive spill containment) and handling spills once they occur (active spill containment).

Mopping floors daily to clean up vagrant fluids, oils and solvents is part of passive spill containment.

Minimize indoor pollutants

A good mopping program can help minimize indoor biological, checmial, and particulate pollutants to support good employee hygiene and reduce exposure levels.

BIOLOGICAL – Fungi (molds & yeasts), bacteria and viruses, dust mites, insect, rodent, and other animal proteins.
CHEMICAL – Lead, pesticides, VOC’s, from cleaners, deodorizers and cosmetics.
PARTICULATE – Fine dust particles and fibers from soil tracked in, clothing, copiers, shredders and carpet.

The EPA estimates that U.S. businesses lose $60 billion per year due to lost productivity from poor indoor air quality.

  • Eye Irritation
  • Headache
  • Upper Respiratory Irritation
  • Nausea, Dizziness
  • Fatigue & Lethargy
  • Sore/ Dry Throat/ Nose Bleed
  • Odor Complaints
  • Memory Impairment

Invest in an effective mop

Mops can come in all shapes and sizes.  Look for an antimicrobial mop that will not easily collect mold or mildew.  Also consider durability, absorbtion, and if the mop is treated or untreated.

A good floor mopping program will keep buildings clean and reduce labor costs. This includes protecting the floors, equipment, and filters.  It can also reduce your frequency of expensive floor maintenance (i.e., floor stripping, waxing & polishing), reduce allergy irritants and other building related sicknesses, and reduce slips and falls.

Finally, a good mopping program will present a clean and professional image.
