ITU AbsorbTech upgrades to most current ISO 14001 standard
ITU AbsorbTech is pleased to announce we have recently upgraded to the most current ISO 14001:2015 standard.
“This achievement reinforces our commitment to environmental stewardship, and is another piece that demonstrates the ITU AbsorbTech vision,” says Jodi Drew, Environmental Engineer at ITU AbsorbTech.
The ISO 14001:2015 version incorporates several key changes, including more requirements of knowledge and involvement from upper management (directors, vice presidents, and president), movement to a “risk and opportunities” thought process, and incorporation of life cycle thinking (looking both upstream at our suppliers and downstream at our scrap, waste and recycling.)
In addition, we have combined all of our ISO 14001 registrations into one corporate registration.
This extends our corporate procedures throughout all of our operating facilities. It means that our EMS teams must look at how they fit into the big picture and communicate changes that might impact any other part of the organization.
“All locations within ITU AbsorbTech make up one business enterprise,” says Drew. “We are combined in pursuit of common objectives under one philosophy of business.”
Why this is Important
This upgrade to the 2015 standard keeps our registration active and shows continual improvement in our systems. This achievement fits with our sustainability tenets and places a higher emphasis on all facilities pulling together towards common goals.
This also demonstrates to our customers that we are committed to dynamic change and improvement and hold all facilities to the same high standard.
Background
ITU AbsorbTech team members worked to interpret the changes and then reviewed and revised hundreds of documents to incorporate those changes. Each facility and our corporate office were trained and audited on the changes. Most of the work took place between January and September of 2017.
